Kombucha – another superfood

We love superfoods in all forms! Something that has been very popular over the past years is Kombucha. Kombucha is a fermented tea that has been consumed for thousands of years in China and Japan. You can easily create your own kombucha tea by adding specific strains of bacteria, yeast and sugar to either black or green tea. During the fermentation process the ingredients forms a blob called SCOBY (also known as kombucha mushroom). The kombucha mushroom can be used multiple times when you want to ferment new kombucha.

Health benefits of Kombucha

The tea contains antioxidants and is a potential source of probiotics which have many health benefits. During the fermentation process a substance called acetic acid are produced which have been shown to fight the growth of undesirable bacteria and yeasts.
